Our Story

I’ve loved travelling ever since I was a child. My best and most treasured memories are of family holidays with my Mum, Dad and two sisters. 

Now I have kids of my own, family adventures are even more special and I want to show them the amazing world that we live in.

I started Families Can Travel blog in 2018 as a way to document our adventures, but I quickly realized it could be so much more – a place to help other families plan their dream adventures.

When I planned our trips, I leaned on other travel blogs for advice. And somewhere along the way I realised how much I could help other families too.

And I want to show you how to do all of these too! 

Meet my family

Me/Gemma (Mum) – Chief planner and budget-stretching wizard behind the scenes. When I’m not working, parenting or trying to squeeze a workout in, I’m busy researching and planning our next trip to the “nth degree”. I find ways to make travel affordable without compromising on experience. 

Lee (Dad) – Laid back, easygoing and always up for an adventure – as long as he doesn’t have to plan it – that’s my job!

Freya (aged 12) – Our outgoing, confident chatterbox who loves people, so travelling gives her plenty of people to talk to. 

Florence (aged 8) – Our wild child. She loves animals, insects and the outdoors – give her a forest trail or bug hunt and she’s happy. 

Alessia (aged 4) – The tiny, crazy comedian with bags of energy. Her favourite question is “How many sleeps until we go…”?

My mission

I feel lucky enough to have planned and experienced countless family adventures. 

Along the way, I’ve faced the challenges of travelling with kids – the packing chaos, the budget constraints, the endless “Are we there yet?” moments.

But I’ve also discovered ways to make it easier, smoother, more affordable and even more fun. 

My absolute goal is to share everything I’ve learned to help other families start their own adventures.
